[log] chitose & shiraishi

Who: Chitose Senri & Shiraishi Kuranosuke
What: Cuddle recovery for one very exhausted Shiraishi.
When: Back when Shiraishi found out about his sibling and best friend dating. >>
Rating: G?

When Shiraishi returns to Basil Gardens for the night, he doesn’t head over to his own room. Instead, he goes to Senri’s door and knock on it. He doesn’t have a clue if Senri’s actually in or somewhere, but he really hopes he is, at least. While it wasn’t a bad day, it was somehow still exhausting and he just wants to rest against someone he trusts without needing to worry. And it had been a while since they had talked so that could also happen.

Alone in the room was, in fact, Senri - he'd decided to have an evening in tackling the growing collection of books that had been gathering by his bedside. The knock surprises him, and he does hesitate for a moment before going to open the door. It's unlike most of his friends to show up unannounced at this time of night.

When it's Shiraishi he sees when he finally unlatches the door, well… that's definitely unlike him to not ask beforehand. Something must be up. “Hey, Kuranosuke,” he says gently, lifting his arm and stepping aside to let the other man in unquestioningly.

“Hey”, Shiraishi replies with a rather tired smile, entering the room. “Sorry for appearing unannounced. I just didn’t feel like going to my room first or texting. Too much happened tonight…”

He turns to look at his unbelievably tall and gentle friend. “Can I stay here for the night?”

The exhausted look on Shiraishi's face had Senri frowning slightly. He closes the door, crossing his arms and leaning against it. The unmade bed was the best place to sit - he nods toward it to show Shiraishi he was welcome to relax there.

“Of course you can,” he agrees easily. It would be nice to spend time with his friend after Shiraishi's disappearance, and it looked like he really needed the company. “What's up? Want to talk about it?”

Shiraishi sits down on the bed, almost tempted to just flop down and lay on it, but he doesn’t do that yet. Instead he lets out a sigh. “I just found out Kenya and Yukari are dating one another. Have been for a while without telling me a thing.”

Telling Senri was alright. It’s not like he was making a public post about them dating and Senri wouldn’t do that either, so no harm done.

Hesitating for a moment before going to join Shiraishi on the edge of the bed, Senri tried very hard to at least seem surprised. He hadn't known for sure that those two had been dating, but something in their online interactions had skewed that way - to him, it was mildly reassuring that he hadn't been wrong about it.

“How long?” He asks, winding a long arm over Shiraishi's shoulders. Shiraishi loved his sister and best friend too much to be truly mad at them, so this was likely shock more than anything, Senri supposed.

Even if Senri had known, it wouldn’t have been against him in Shiraishi’s book - especially not telling him about his suspicions either. Something like this needed to be heard from the the source itself anyway. So hearing it from an outer source would have only made this worse.

Shiraishi leans against Senri, grateful for the closeness. “They started talking about it in December, but their first date was in April. So it depends kinda on how you count it.”

Senri nods in understanding, giving Shiraishi's shoulder a comforting squeeze. “Either way, that's plenty of time without telling you,” he surmises. “One of those situations where they put off telling you, then felt bad about putting it off, which only made it worse… a vicious cycle.” At least it had finally been broken. And it hasn't just been Shiraishi who was kept out of the loop.

“You've been talking to them?” It's not really a question - Senri knows the answer is yes. That had to be the cause of the utter exhaustion apparent in Shiraishi's body language, the drain of emotional exertion.

Shiraishi nods at what Senri say. He can understand how difficult it becomes to tell something when you just postpone it. He knows that painfully well. It’s something he’s done more than a few times and he never found the ‘perfect’ opportunity to say something. The ‘perfect’ one never came and he had to settle for something else - or people just figured on their own, like Zaizen had.

“Yeah, I did. Things are fine. Everything went great. It was just a lot to deal with all of a sudden.” He sighs softly. “So I wanted to just cuddle and relax… and you came to mind immediately, of course.”

“Cuddle, huh…” Senri sounds amused, his worry fading back into his usual easygoing mood now that Shiraishi had confirmed that things had turned out fine. He spread his arms wide. “Well, I am the perfect target. I have pretty big arms.”

Legs swinging back into the mattress, Senri draws his knees up and pats a spot higher up near the pillows. “There's always a Kura-sized spot available right here,” he says with a smile. “You can tell me all about your travels to the land of the cervids.”

Shiraishi chuckles, accepting the invitation easily and claiming the spot deemed as a Kura-sized spot. He seems more relaxed, at least, getting all of that out of the way. Now he can just relax and focus on telling traveling stories. Which is usually what Senri does, not him.

“Where do I even start… beginning? Or when it actually get interesting?”

Draping his upper body over Shiraishi's comfortably, Senri presses his cheek affectionately against the shorter man's temple and hums in consideration. “Wherever you want to start,” he decides. “I'm pretty good at keeping track, so you don't have to pick an order or anything.”

Belatedly, he raises his head with a noise of realisation. “Ah, right, I should have offered you tea or something, huh?” It felt sort of weird to get up now when they'd just settled into a good pose, though.

Shiraishi can’t help but nuzzle his cheek a little bit before chuckling. “Yeah, I think it’s a bit too late for tea. Not that I’d needed anything.”

So they can keep being comfortable and Shiraishi can tell him stories about the sock stealing deer and about the various stray cats he encountered and occasionally slept with if he was camping outside.

“Mmkay, good,” Senri replies simply, and settles back down. “Tea later.”

The various tales Shiraishi recounted had him chuckling with a combination of familiarity at the situations from his own experiences, and the strange thought of Shiraishi in those places. “Did you make any new friends?” He asks eventually, having listened peacefully for a while.

It’s also strange for Shiraishi to realize that he did all these things he never imagined doing. But it also feels good to know he did. It’s clear from the way he talks that he enjoyed his time and doesn’t regret one bit.

He nods as an answer to the question. “Yeah, a few. We exchanged emails so I can let them know when I wound up in Nara again or they can tell me if they ever come over to Tokyo. They were really nice. A few girls who are passionate dancers and liked hearing about my experiences and then a guy who really enjoyed nature the same way I did. And then an old man who was feeding deer also liked to talk with me whenever I ended up visiting the park. Yoshino-san had plenty of great advice about life… in a true Kansai fashion.”

Senri laughs quietly, giving Shiraishi's side a squeeze in happiness. Hearing such a warm tone in his friend's voice after the problems he had been facing was reassuring. “You should form a dance crew,” he half-jokes. “Just for when you visit.”

Kansai fashion wasn't strange to Chitose either - well, not any more than usual. He hadn't been at Shitenhouji for long, but Osamu's coaching style left an impact. “You didn't start wearing anything strange again, did you?”

“Maybe. We can use the deer as background dancers”, Shiraishi muses with a very amused tone in his voice.

Then he looks at Senri with a very serious look in his eyes. “Yeah, now I have a platinum leg brace, if you were wondering why my leg feels so sturdy.”

“Very family friendly. You could petition to advertise for Nara,” Senri replies, smiling vaguely. He could imagine Shiraishi leading a group of talents in a travel campaign like that.

And, well. That sounded like an invitation. Senri presses a long leg against Shiraishi's, humming curiously. “You've got a real skill for getting awfully valuable training weights. Maybe you should market that,” he remarks.

“Another possible career of choice for my future. I’ll be a busy man if all plans fall into place”, Shiraishi laughs. “A poison garden owner who is also a tennis coach and who is also a deer dancer Nara advertiser.”

As one might have guessed, there wasn’t actually any signs of a metal brace, luckily. Yet he smirks. “It’s my natural charm, really. Something about me screams ‘give him heavy and expensive weights to carry around’.”

The lack of a piece of metal answering his contact wasn't actually surprising, of course, but Senri decides his leg is fine where it is. “Next it'll be a whole breastplate,” he agrees.

Blinking at Shiraishi's profile, Senri thinks for a moment as he watches his expression carefully. Honestly, he belatedly replies - “If anyone could handle all of that, it would be you. As long as you were enjoying it all.”

Shiraishi is fine with where the leg is, and only hums a bit at the notion of the breastplate. That would be annoying.

He’s quiet for a while, thinking. Would he enjoy all of that? Most likely. But would he enjoy it enough to do all of them with equal passion? Likely not. “Dancing is more of a hobby to me so that would go first. Plants have always been my first priority, but… if I enjoy coaching, why not do that too? We’ll see.”

With a comfortable sigh, Senri blows a strand of Shiraishi's pale hair away from his face and curls around him a little more. He wouldn't fall asleep while he still had his friend to listen to, but it would be difficult to make him.move from this spot now.

“That's fair enough,” he says reasonably. “Sometimes combining hobbies with work actually doesn't work out.” And for someone with Shiraishi's… bad habits, separating the two might prove especially important. “You'll make a good coach, I'm sure. I hope you find it rewarding.”

Shiraishi yawns lightly, snuggling closer to Senri. He was already tired to begin with and such a comfortable position doesn’t help with that one bit. “Thank you. I hope so too. The best reward would be seeing the smiles of the kids when they succeed.”

As he’s trailing a seam of Senri’s shirt he suddenly remembers. “Oh. Yukari wanted you to know that your hoodie that I kept is hers now. Likely you don’t even remember it.”

Yawning is a contagious thing, and Senri barely suppresses an echo of one. He doesn't want to fall asleep before Shiraishi does - he'd been chosen as a confidant, and it would be rude to not see that role out until he was done for the night. Instead, he continues to listen. It really did sound like the trip has taken a huge weight off of his former captain's shoulders.

The sleepily absent tracing of his shirt has him smiling wider. How cute. It was also cute that the younger Shiraishi found his old clothes comfortable, though she would surely be swimming in all the extra fabric. “I have a good memory,” he reminds gently. “I know the one, and she's welcome to it, of course.”

“Ah, that’s right. You and your elephant memory”, Shiraishi says with a grin. “She looked really comfortable it in, so it’s got a good home now.”

Closing his eyes might be a mistake, because he begins to talk even more slowly and his thoughts have quite literally stopped. Or maybe it’s a good thing. “Mm… I missed you…” he murmurs. “You’re so safe…”

“‘With Shiraishis’ is a pretty good home for anything,” Senri agrees easily. He'd have to ask Yukari-chan to wear it next time they met up, just so he could appreciate his old clothes in the hands of yet another Shiraishi.

But the one curled up against him seemed to be drifting off, so he was the priority now. Senri ran his fingers absently through the top of Shiraishi's hair. “I missed you too, Kura.” It was true, though he suspected it was a different kind of missing. “You can always rest up here after a long day, if you need a different space. Even if I'm not here.”

There’s a content smile at the fingers on his hair. Sometimes he was like a cat and not even ashamed of it. He enjoyed being pet and otherwise just taken cared off.

“I might…” he yawns again, nuzzling closer again. “I might.”

The next noise he makes is a failed attempt at saying goodnight because he realizes he won’t be able to stay awake for too much longer. Not that he had any intention of falling asleep like this in the first place, with the same clothes he wore outside and all, but hey, if you’re too comfortable to move, then you are.

Senri doesn't dare move aside from the slow, calming drift of his hands over Shiraishi's locks until he's sure his friend is fast asleep. The day's announcements must have really taken a toll if meticulous Shiraishi was able to fall asleep fully clothed and untidy like this.

Finally letting himself yawn as well, Senri extracted himself very carefully from the bed, closing the book he'd left open on the bedside before company had arrived and flicking the room's light off. Returning with equal care, he pulled the quilt over them both and settled in against the warmth of another person. “Goodnight,” he finally whispered, for both of them.
