CHARACTER
Name: Hiyoshi Wakashi
Journal: [personal profile] soroban
Appearance: Besides gaining a few centimeters to add on to his height, Hiyoshi had never changed in the last six years, keeping his traditional haircut. The only thing that has changed, however, is that he's recently switched to using glasses rather than contacts starting his first year of university.

Personality: Hiyoshi is, to put simply, an introvert. He tends to come off as distant and rude at times, and he's never bothered to change that. He figuring that if someone disliked his behavior enough to not want to further their friendship, then that was that. He saw no need in building superficial relationships or changing himself for the sake of others. He's not one to go out of his way to impress someone he doesn't know, but is still polite to his upperclassmen or instructors out of respect. Hiyoshi doesn't express himself well, but manages to wear his heart on his sleeve.

Biography: Hiyoshi had quit playing tennis at the end of his third year at Hyotei. Whether or not he was satisfied with the end results is never said, but his desire to overcome and surpass his upperclassmen hadn't left. He did gained from being captain and the difficulties that came with it, as well as what makes a good enough leader, but in the end, he decided that tennis just wasn't for him. He quickly learned that there was more to surpass than his middle school goal, facing entrance exams and eventually entering himself in cram school, however, Hiyoshi never really gave much though one exactly what he wanted to do. He mostly focused on his general studies without putting much thought into it, but eventually decided on finding a path in business after comparing his grades in his current classes. Besides, he found being able to see a change in numbers something amusing and was determined that he'd be able to surpass anyone that gets in his way.

After graduation, he entered Keio to pursue his business major and took up a job at a nearby library, shelving books and studying in his free time when work was slow, which was usual. On his free time outside of school and work, Hiyoshi participates in one of the many martial arts clubs available, letting it fill in the time he has while telling himself that the busy feeling makes him feel much more productive. He was now in his third year of uni, getting adjusted to his new room at Basil Gardens (his decision may or may not have been influenced by the price) hoping that his new roommate would be someone he could at least get along with.

RP Samples: Gently, the breeze from outside found its way through his open window, Hiyoshi's eyes close as he sat in a familiar pose on his bed. Meditating was something he enjoyed doing, and something he learned was a lot more helpful than people usually think. Sometimes he meditated the night before a match, whether it was tennis or simply one held at his father's dojo that he would participate in, others he'd do it to clear his mind and allow him to focus more on the endless amount of studying he had planned for his biology test coming up.

After a long exhale, Hiyoshi dropped his posture and opened his eyes. Another breeze came in through his window and at the same time, he left from his bed, moving over to his desk and sat down. He began to pull out his notes and open his textbook, eyeing both as he wrote down important keywords to remember. Hiyoshi felt like maybe, just maybe, he could finally complete the notes he's procrastinated on for far too long... or so he thought. He heard the sound of his phone vibrating against the table and eyed it annoyingly, hoping that would be the only time he had to hear it, but of course, it wasn't. Two, three, four vibrations later, Hiyoshi clicked his tongue and pulled his phone over, looking at the notifications in annoyance and slight surprise, but mostly annoyance when he looked over the name of the person who had to pick the perfect time to bother him. For a second, he contemplated on whether or not he should just shove his phone in a spot to silence it, but he had already found himself unlocking his phone, thinking of exactly how to respond to his current distraction.

CHARACTER
Name: Atobe Keigo
Journal: (The journal your character will be using.) worldofice.dreamwidth.org
Appearance: (if it has changed since canon.)
Atobe retains the same outward appearance as at school, no doubt due to an intensive moisturising routine morning and night. His dark hair is still highlighted blond, partly to accent his blue eyes and partly because roots are common and unacceptable.

Personality: (At least one paragraph, just so we can get an idea on how you will play the character.)
Atobe was not so much born with a silver spoon in his mouth, as with three separate companies worth of metal crafting with international trading partners. Despite this, Atobe is acutely aware of the virtues of hard work and too proud to enjoy being the recipient of achievements he does not feel he personally earned. Outwardly, he gives the appearance of gliding towards the top ranks of every activity he focusses upon, but behind the scenes he puts in the long hours required for success. Atobe appears narcissistic and distant, but will go to considerable lengths to assist his friends.

Biography: (What has your character been up to in the past 6 years since canon? And what are they doing now? Where are they living?)
After graduating high school, Atobe joined Keio University to read Business and Management Studies; a course of study appropriate for the heir to the vast set of businesses that had made his family obscenely rich.

It was during his first year at the University that his course in entrepreneurship took a horrifying turn. His own family were naturally heavily mentioned in the lecture material; prime examples of drivers of innovation within Tokyo that could turn a failing businesses in auto-vehicles into a global monopoly for eyebrow sculpting. Yet, even this astounding revolution in facial hygiene had made it only second in the list of recent city successes. Two housing blocks had been bought and developed by a couple of no-names from one of the rival tennis teams to Hyoutei Academy that Atobe barely recalled, mainly because their tennis captain wasn’t Tezuka. This investment had been touted in class as a prime example of imaginative investment that went far beyond anything seen in recent years, and likely heralded a new age of business start-ups. Disturbed by the insinuation that his own family businesses might be overthrown, Atobe took the necessary step: he applied for a room in Mikiya Mansion where he could see the revolution for himself.

Atobe still plays tennis at an impressive level for someone studying full time. Sleep, after all, is for the weak.

RP Samples: (a journal post or a small log Please do not write this in script form.)

Atobe tweaked the edge of the exquisite Persian rug that covered the main part of the room floor. It would have countered the aims of this… experiment… to extensively refurnish the room, or indeed take over the entire floor, add in servant quarters and make it suitable for acceptable human habitation. However, he was regretting not gold plating the faucets. The stainless steel did not match the sapphire stitch work of the rug.

Forcing himself to ignore these unacceptable aesthetics, Atobe settled himself at his desk and refiled the ink in his pen. From outside the room came a loud crash as if someone had attempted all the redecoration Atobe had been considering but without first vacating the occupants of the building. Alternatively, they were just extremely bad at the drums. With a painfully controlled air, Atobe wrote his title: "Entrepreneurship and How it Can Damage Society". His first paragraph would mention his ears.

Buddy system: Yes. Someone be Lili’s friend.

CHARACTER
Name: Liliadent Krauser
Journal: [personal profile] uzauza
Appearance: He’s gotten taller, now slightly over 2 meters tall. His hair is more or less the same, but he spends more time making sure his bangs hide his forehead, because he keeps hitting doorframes. He still suffers from an unfortunate case of resting bitchface.
Personality: Because his Japanese is formal and somewhat stilted and his face isn’t very expressive, Liliadent tends to come off colder than he intends. Even though he sometimes judges things with some prejudice in comparison to ‘back home in Germany’, he’s actually very interested in Japanese culture and is hoping to make friends.
He can be a bit naive, and tends to ascribe things he doesn’t understand or recognize to them being foreign. He would like to be close enough with people to casually joke around with, but is extremely bad at catching them in Japanese.

Biography:
Liliadent went back home to Germany after he finished his exchange year at Nagoya Seitoku feeling thoroughly impressed by Japanese tennis, and has been meaning to return to Japan since. Feeling part of the reason it was harder for him to fit in with the others at U-17 (aside from not having any senpai from his own school there) was the language barrier, he has taken a few internet courses outside of his school hours to improve his Japanese.
After he finished secondary education he spent a few months living on his own working odd jobs to prove to his parents he wouldn’t be helplessly stranded and die if he moved across the globe, planning to use the money he saved to fly to Japan, where he’d applied to study computer science at Keio.
To his surprise his 19th birthday present ended up being flying tickets and a year lease on a one-person apartment near his university. Even though he’s glad for the opportunity, he actually felt slightly cheated out of bonding opportunity when he learned about the communal housing offered by the Jimis.
He’s very excited to be back in the country, and really hopes someone remembers him even though he couldn’t say much more than a few key phrases the last time he was in the country. Even though he doesn’t play that much anymore, he has brought his tennis gear in the hopes of being able to use it as an excuse to bond.

RP Samples:
There is a lurch as the wheels of the plane touch down, bounce back up and touch down once more, and Liliadent’s hand shoots out to steady Kurui-san, the elderly lady who has spent the entire duration of their eleven and a half hours long flight telling him all about her business (a small newspaper store in Nagoya he’s pretty sure he remembers the rough general location of) and… a mixture of grandchildren and cats, he’s pretty sure? She’s mentioned a number of names, and keeps bringing up a ‘Haru-kun’, who might either be her grandson or the fluffy white cat said grandson set as her phone’s lock screen, that he apparently reminds her of.
She’s been generous about pausing to let him search the thick dictionary in his lap whenever he lost track of the conversation, and gives him a similar kindly smile at his attempt to keep her from being jossed by the landing even though she was wearing her seatbelt.
He squints to try and make out Haneda airport through the airplane window, but beyond some early morning flight monitoring lights his first view of Tokyo in six years mostly consists of bleary, barely there morning gloom. He fidgets with the hem of his sleeve, wired from the flight that he should have slept through but didn’t, and wonders if he shouldn’t have reached out to an old acquaintance to pick him up from the airport after all.

CHARACTER
Name: Kikumaru Eiji
Journal: kikumaru-beam.dreamwidth.org

Appearance: Eiji would like to point out that he does not still look like a fourteen-year-old boy, though you’d be hard pressed to find ten people to agree with him. He still has his acrobat figure, and still wears his hair in carefully styled flippy curls (but he tries to keep up with most of the latest trends and will totally try out new stuff if he feels like it!)

Personality: Outgoing and cheerful to a fault, Kikumaru Eiji can and will try everything in his power to make you his friend. Eiji is a spur of a moment person, brimming with energy, thinks on his feet and looks at the consequences afterwards. On the flipside, this means he isn’t as quick to notice things as he ought to be, and becomes his own worst critic when things don’t go the way he wants them to. His confidence stems from being recognised and appreciated, and he wilts under a lack of encouragement. Eiji can come off as being airheaded, especially when he doesn’t quite think his words through before speaking, but he cares about his friends and will readily jump into a brawl with anyone who says otherwise.

Biography: Eiji had always thought of college as something other people did, and definitely not in line with his dream since he’d been fourteen – of becoming a movie stuntman. A dream that did not deflate in the least, but grew over his years at high school and transformed into something altogether more awesome, in Eiji’s opinion. He was going to become a star on a sentai show. To get on one of those, though, he needed a little more training than playing gravity-defying tennis alone could provide.

With this aim, the help of a few well-chosen pamphlets from his parents, and the dedicated tutoring of his friends, Eiji enrolled in a performing arts course in a private university in Tokyo. He is now entering the second year of the course, and has managed to move out of his crowded family home. Deciding to live in Basil Gardens, one of those buildings owned by those two guys from Yamabuki that he and Oishi had utterly destroyed in their match back in middle-school. Eiji works part time in a cat café because who says some dreams can’t come true early.

RP Samples: Eiji frowned at his theatre exercise partner for the day. They were supposed to being doing trust-falls as a warm-up. Trust-falls! Those were like the first thing people learned when they started doing theatre stuff, right? Eiji wasn’t sure if he was really good at acting, or dancing, or any of that, but he sure as hell knew how to fall backwards in the complete belief that he would be caught.

Until now, because his partner had dropped him both times they’d tried and Eiji was starting to think it was on purpose. He hopped to his feet, rubbing his sore behind, and tried to give his not-nearly-sorry-enough looking partner an encouraging smile. “I dunno if you’ve never done this before,” he said, “But the idea is to catch your partner before he hits the ground!” His partner nodded, and Eiji spun around, ready to fall again. “Here I come!”

When he fell on his backside for the third time that night, Eiji sighed, ducking his head into his arms. He gave his partner a sidelong look and hoped his grin wasn’t too wicked. “Maybe we should try it the other way around~”

CHARACTER
Name: Jackal Kuwahara

Journal: equestriantennis.dreamwidth.org

Appearance: Jackal still shaves his head like his dad does, but he occasionally lets his hair grow when it's almost winter. His facial features are sharper now, and he's grown as tall as Sanada.

Personality: Jackal doesn't like apathy. When he thinks something is off, he finds it difficult to accept things as they are, so he asks questions. He's also kind-hearted and friendly. He knows what it's like to be treated as a second-class citizen, an outcast of society, so he has a soft spot for people who seem like they're having a hard time fitting in.

By the time he reached his senior year in high school, he finally learned how to say no to people. It's just that he is, admittedly, an only child whom his parents can afford to spoil, and he's a simple guy; he doesn't like spending too much on himself save for shoes, so every now and then he indulges Marui when he kids about Jackal covering the bill.

Biography: After middle school, Jackal continued into Rikkai High School and started helping out his parents run their restaurant by working part-time as a waiter. He served different kinds of customers and learned a great deal about humility and respect. A year later, his dad started teaching him how to cook every item on their menu and how to operate the counter. Jackal initially wanted to travel the world and study Tourism, but he knew that, as an only child, he was expected to continue the family business. Not that his family was forcing him or anything--he knew he could choose to pursue a completely different career path and his parents would be okay with it, but well.

Time in the restaurant wasn't as bad as he thought--he still loves ramen despite being subjected to it every day, and he found that the longer he worked part-time, the more he found flaws in their system that he wanted to improve. His mind was filled with ideas. He wanted to put in speakers for music and decorate the place with commissioned pieces from Yukimura. He wanted to let their business thrive and expand somehow.

This is why he ended up living in the Basil Gardens as a business student of Waseda University. He still plays tennis in Waseda's tennis club, and he occasionally indulges himself by going horseback riding, his other hobby, as a part of Waseda's equestrian club. When he's not spending time in his clubs, he works part time at a restaurant near the Basil Gardens, aiming to learn things he can apply to his family's own restaurant.

RP Samples: Tick. Tock. Tick. Tock. Jackal glances at his watch. There's still an hour left before his shift ends. He doubts more customers will arrive, given the weather, but his boss doesn't want to close up shop just in case the foreigners who have been eating there for three nights straight show up again. Okay. He sighs, watching the people passing by, clutching their umbrellas and rushing towards the station. He should be back at the dorm, preparing for his presentation tomorrow, or at least be doing something productive, like practicing his special ramen recipe... Jackal pauses, and discreetly takes out his phone to make a post on his dreamwidth account.

CHARACTER
Name: Tachibana Kippei
Journal: kipp_ei
Appearance: He can keep his luscious blonde locks. The rest is still pretty much the same.
Personality:

While Tachibana can appear initially as intense and intimidating, perhaps even unapproachable, this couldn’t be further from the truth. He takes affront at injustice, such as when the Fudomine Juniors were being bullied by their seniors, and does not hesitate to step in and make things right. Similarly, he believes and has faith in people that they are going to do the right thing instead of being malicious without any redeeming traits.

Headstrong and responsible to a fault (And with no small thanks to An,) he is prone to taking on the older brother and leader role. As such, he pays attention to those he cares about, be it either via praising them or pointing out their flaws. While he does take care with his words to not sound insensitive and callous, he is not one to mince words. Whether you do well or mess up, Tachibana will be upfront with you and as such, any compliment or criticism will come straight from his heart.

This does not mean that Tachibana is without flaws, contrary to what his ex-teammates will suggest. His temper can get the better of him and has gotten the better of him in the past. This, however, has lead to Tachibana being very conscious of his actions and words and made him realize that before his temper rears its ugly head again, he needs to take a step back and look at the situation from a different angle.

Biography: After his experiences in the Fudomine Middle School, Tachibana ultimately decided to pursue a degree in education with the hopes becoming a teacher. He managed to juggle his studies and his position as a regular of the tennis club of his high school well enough to be accepted into Waseda University in Tokyo, which he attends in his third year now.

Since tennis has been such a huge part of his life, he hopes to end up at a school where he can become the coach of the tennis club. While he isn’t part of the tennis club in his university anymore, he still plays regularly during the weekends.

He also works as a part time waiter at a local café.

RP Samples:

My colleague from work has lent me a book his sister gave to him on his birthday, assuring me that I would find humor in the situation. I did, it turned out to be a joke book. And quite a funny one, too. Here are some of the best ones:

Did you hear about the restaurant on the moon? Great food, no atmosphere.

The rotation of earth makes my day.

The shovel was a groundbreaking invention.

And my personal favorite:

How does a penguin build its house? Igloos it together!

I should share more of them with An once I see her. Does anyone know more funny jokes like these?

CHARACTER
Name: Kawamura Takashi

Journal: [personal profile] itakamae

Appearance: Takashi looks much the same as he did in middle school; he may be a little broader, a little little more buff, and more often in need of a shave to keep from looking scruffy, but otherwise he has the same hairstyle and demeanor as his friends may remember from when he was younger. He also has the same casual fashion sense, outside of when he's dressed for work at the restaurant.

Personality: On the whole, Takashi is a mild-mannered, friendly person. He cares a great deal for his friends, and is more likely to stand up for someone he cares about than he is to advocate for himself. There was a time when this would all change as soon as he picked up a tennis racket and stepped onto the court, but as he no longer plays, he no longer has a need for that persona. Nevertheless, that intensity was always a part of who Takashi is and as an adult, glimpses of it will still occasionally appear. While the kitchen is rarely the place for self-important shouting in English, Takashi has channeled much of his intensity into improving himself as a sushi chef and with a knife in hand, a bit of that old "burning!" personality can still be seen.

The other occasion where Takashi's intensity is likely to peek through is in defense of his friends. As he grew older, Takashi grew a bit more perceptive and better able to judge whether and how to intervene with problems, but he's always had a stubborn streak strong enough to make taking a beating from Gin just to see if Gin would break first sound like a good idea. He is less likely to fall into that sort of single-minded recklessness as an adult, but if pushed, the inclination to dig in his heels and stick it out until he can't is still very much there.

Biography: As the son of a sushi chef, it has always been Takashi's ambition to learn from his father and follow in his footsteps by continuing with the family business. True to his words, Takashi quit playing tennis when he began high school. While he did participate in the U-17 camp with his friends as something of a "last hurrah" before his premature retirement from school sports, failing to put in an application for the high school tennis club effectively ended his competitive career as a student athlete.

Despite this, Takashi did occasionally play street tennis during high school, on a few rare occasions. While he sought out these pick-up games out of nostalgia for what he'd once had with his middle school team, he found himself unable to capture the feeling he'd left behind. As someone who played tennis first and foremost to support and contribute to the efforts of his team, games without that camaraderie failed to bring Takashi the satisfaction he had been expecting, and he soon dropped playing for a second time.

Takashi's apprenticeship as a sushi chef continued alongside his high school education and come graduation, he became a full time employee at the family restaurant. While his ten year apprenticeship is not yet complete, Takashi has become a chef more than skilled enough to serve their customers, and is proud of the abilities he's honed. He has remained in touch with his middle and high school friends as much as he is able, though he does feel that he lives in something of a different world than them, when he began work immediately after high school and while many of his friends chose to pursue higher education or even professional sports careers.

Takashi continues to live at home, with his parents, in their residence upstairs from the sushi shop. While he has some wistfulness for what it might be like to move out or live with a roommate, as many of his friends have done, he knows that his arrangement is most practical and does appreciate the lack of any commute to work. Moreover, with Kawamura Sushi's Tokyo location, he is easy traveling distance from most anywhere he might want to visit and quite close to any friends pursuing university in the greater Tokyo area.

RP Samples:

There is a party at Kawamura Sushi that night. Some corporate thing, with lots of men in well-tailored suits and a few young women in pencil skirts and fancy blouses -- some Tokyo company, taking its latest step toward financial success. The alcohol is flowing and the orders come pouring in, a steady stream of demands to the chef which Takashi and his father rush to fulfill.

Even behind the bar, before his cutting board, Takashi can hear the sounds of their merriment, the laughter and the shouts and the periodic cries of "kanpai!" as toasts are made. He can hear the revelry, but he doesn't listen; his world narrows to the motions of his hands, the motions of his knife as he precisely, expediently slices through fish. Years of practice have rendered his motions steady and sure, and the pressure from the party makes him fast. He can do this. He's no longer a boy only fit for preparing take-out orders; he is a sushi chef every bit as qualified as his father and just as deserving to stand before the cutting board and serve.

One day he'll be the only one standing here.

It's a daunting thought, and one he doesn't have time to dwell on. He pushes it aside, attention zeroing in once again on plating the food, positioning each perfectly-formed pat of rice with its sliver of fish atop so they point in exactly the right direction, just so. For a long time, he hadn't been able to appreciate what a privilege it was, for someone as young and inexperienced as he was to prepare the sushi, even just for his friends, even just for take-out orders. Their newest chef hire, taken on during the first year Takashi was out of school, has only just moved on to preparing ingredients for Takashi and his father, grating the ginger, slicing the scallions. It will be years more before he graduates to slicing the fish with his own knife.

Something Takashi was doing when he was only fourteen. Something Takashi is doing now, with the full respect of their important guests, despite his age. A business is an opportunity, and Kawamura Sushi is a future Takashi's father has built for him, just as much as it is his way of life.

He hopes that when he inherits it in full, he will be able to live up to even a portion of that legacy.

CHARACTER
Name: Oishi Shuuichirou
Journal: [personal profile] over_the_moon

Appearance: Oishi has definitely gained some height and broadened over the years, the latter thanks to the switch from tennis to swimming. His love of changing his hairstyle every year has never changed and currently, his hair is all grown out (including his old signature bangs) and is long enough for the front to frequently be pulled back into a half ponytail.

Personality: Oishi has and will always be a listener with a big heart. Being an older brother might have been the cause, but throughout his life, Oishi has always loved lending an ear when he can and then a hand to, hopefully, help solve whatever problem was around. While this has definitely whipped around and hurt him before, it hasn't stopped him from continuing to reach out or offer his assistance to anyone...unless they have hurt his own friends, which, is another story.

He also has his moments where his own worries (mostly about his friends, sometimes about himself) get the best of him and Oishi withdraws into himself for a little bit, a habit he's had since his youth. Using a cheerful facade that isn't really good at all, he stays like that until he's dealt with the issue and can go back to focusing on the here and now instead of the future, something that he's done his utmost best to improve on over the years.

That aside, he still enjoys his own hobbies and while he has calmed down his intense feelings when it came to barbecue, those feelings have been fueled into his online barbecue food blog that he's as proud of as his old sports medals. Still, if he's asked out to eat, he warns anyone new to avoid barbecue, just in case.

Biography: Post middle school nationals, Oishi's life has been full of ups and downs. He separates from most of his old teammates in high school to pursue his dream of becoming an sports therapist and leaves his racket with them. Sure, he would meet up with them occasionally on the weekends to play his first year of high school, but it was never the same, and by the time he entered his second year, he simply suggested that they go out to eat or something else.

This left a hole in Oishi's life and, more importantly, an outlet for stress. With the pressure of school piling up, his mother sat down with him and said "If you're not going to play tennis, why don't you try swimming again? You liked it before and used to tell me that the water cleared your mind." It might have been simple, but sometimes, things are that simple. Swimming becomes his favorite new hobby and while he doesn't officially join his school's swim team, he allows himself to be dragged to their practices and participates in time trials just for fun. Nowadays, into his third year of sports medicine at Keio, Oishi runs a small swim club for students like him who just want to swim and not compete. It's the perfect medium for him, as well as his fellow club members, especially since they can have the school's 50 meter pool to themselves.

Outside of school and the swim club, Oishi still enjoys bowling and updating his own personal barbecue food blog, something that has become very important to him. It's nice to be able to go out to places and then freely write about his experiences and superior opinions on meat and grills instead of causing a fuss in the restaurant when all he was doing was educating his friends. He also hosts a once a week advice show on Keio's on radio broadcast, taking calls and emails of his fellow stressed out students. It's never been his goal to host a radio show, but after countless people telling him that he had the voice and personality for it, he gave it a chance. Under the agreement that he used a pseudo dj name instead of his own, the show has gained a decent following in the year it's been on and he's glad to have it.

Keio's radio booth has become somewhat of a home to him. The worn out chair creaks the same way every time he sits down, the headphones slip easily over his ears and transport him to his favorite realm of white noise, the same way the pool does. It's nice and he closes his eyes to enjoy it while he can.

"We're live in one minute."

Oishi opens his eyes and smiles at his producer behind the glass.

There are a lot of email questions today, not that it's terribly surprising. It's his first show back of the semester and, if he was someone to brag, he would say that his listeners are quite happy to have him back. He's happy to be back too.

A red light starts blinking as the producer counts down. Oishi takes a breath. Three, two, one-

"Welcome back to Honesty Hour. I'm DJ S.O. and I've missed you all very much."
