Who: Tachibana An, Tachibana Kippei, and Tanegashima Shuuji
What: Shuuji invites the Tachibanas out for waffles~ The siblings poke fun at each other and Shuuji is just along for the ride. Lion bananas. ☆
When: A few weeks back
Where: Delicious little waffle restaurant
Rating: G
Shuuji: *upon arriving at the diner, checks his phone to make sure he isn’t late, he’s usually exactly on time and sometimes late, but he had set his alarm for too early and now he’s pretty sure that he has the wrong time and is too early instead of too late… but it’s never too late for waffles*
Kippei: *it’s never too late for waffles indeed. He pulls open the door and motions for An to go in first* After you.
An: *is excited about waffles and also amused at this entire get together between her, her brother and Shuuji* Thank you~ You know I’m still surprised that you agreed to this. *smiles up at her brother before looking around to find Shuuji and spots him giving a wave in hope that the older man noticed*
Shuuji: *waves back, holding a small bag in one hand and his cellphone in the one he used to wave. He has chosen a seat by the window with three open chairs - one beside him and two across from him*
Kippei: I have no reason to say no - it’s been a long time since I’ve had an excuse to spend time with someone from those days. *he touches his hand to An’s shoulder momentarily before waving back at Shuuji and making his way over to where he was sitting* Hey. It’s good to see you.
An: Hmm, that’s true. *Maybe Shuuji had something he could tell her about Kippei during their time together..hopefully embarrassing* *continues to smile as she sits herself down* Sorry for making you wait. I’ll just use my brother as a scapegoat on this.
Shuuji: *stands when An comes to the table, sits along with her* Nope, I just got the time wrong and showed up super early. Good to see you both. Been a while, Little Wing. *grins at Kippei*
Kippei: I’m not your scapegoat. *laughs and takes up the third seat, leaning back in the chair* You too, Tanegashima-san. It has been a while. An told me all about your little outing.
An: *laughs lightly* I thought we were on time but you never know. *Snorts at the little wing* Why are you belittling our outing, Onii-chan.
Shuuji: *watches the exchange between the two and places the gift bag he was holding on the table. It has a cute cat pattern on it and is neatly closed with a seal and bow*
Kippei: I’m not belittling your outing. It sounds like you had a great time. *smiles and rests his arm on the back of the seat* I’m glad to hear that she didn’t scare you away.
An: *puffs her cheeks out* Why would I scare him away? *Smiles soon after and looks back to Shuuji and to the bag he placed on the table* That’s really cute~ *Anything with furry animals was automatically cute*
Shuuji: *grins* Well, it’s for the the two of you - whoever wants to open it can open it. But then you gotta share. *pushes it closer to them*
Kippei: For us? That was thoughtful. *looks at the bag and then back at An - it was indeed adorable* Would you like to do us the honor?
An: *thinks its a sweet gesture* You really didn’t have to but I’m mean you already did so… *extends her hand out and picks up the bag before breaking the seal and peeking inside* *stops to look up at Shuuji and laughs* Really? *puts her hand in and took out the two keychains so Kippei could see* This is really cute, thank you so much~! *grins, will have to find an appropriate place for new keychain*
Shuuji: Aren’t they cute? Made me think of you two lion bananas. *picks up the menu to look it over* Glad you like it, though.
Kippei: *laughs boisterously* Those are fantastic. Thank you. I’ll need to figure out where to put it. *smiles at An* We’ll match.
An: Lion bananas? *Thinks for a moment and shakes her head with a smile* Either way like my brother said, it was very thoughtful. Somehow I now feel indebted to you. *looks to her brother* You should put it on your backpack, I’m sure it’ll be a hit with the ladies *pauses* or guys. *grins and picks up her own menu*
Shuuji: Now you two are just making me jealous I didn't get one for myself. Then we’d all match. *looks between them* Ladybug, are you hoping you’ll be a hit with the ladies. *pauses* Or guys?
Kippei: *takes the keychain from An and leans it up against the syrup on the table, and then picks up his own menu* Would I do it to be a hit with the ladies or guys or would I do it to match with my sister and embarrass her? *laughs and looks between Shuuji and An* Now that is a good question.
An: *raises an eyebrow and shrugs playfully* Who knows~ *softly kicks her brother under the table* You wouldn’t embarrass me at all. Maybe yourself~ I know what I want, what about you Shuuji-kun?
Shuuji: *tilts his head* Well, Seii-chan thought it would be a good idea to find a hot, French boyfriend. But then Kazuya said he’s not French, so I guess it wasn’t meant to be. *shrugs* Someone who thinks it’s fun to let loose at the Magic Kingdom is my type. Liking bunnies is a plus, ‘cause Honeybun is a package deal.
Kippei: I’m not easily embarrassed. *it took years of practice, but he had come to master not reacting when An did things like that - not that it hurt, it was much too soft for it to have done so, but the motion did startle him* Disney, huh? Somehow that seems suiting.
An: Just because you lived in France doesn’t make you French but *taps the table* French enough? *stares up at Shuuji and sniffs* Would that make me your type then? *pauses* Though I think most people enjoy Disney and bunnies so a good chunk of the population is your type. *teases and looks back to her brother* I know you’re not but I like to see if I can.
Shuuji: *nods to An* You’re my type, Ladybug.
Kippei: *if there was one thing to be said about Tanegashima Shuuji, it would be that he was definitely the sort to try stirring shit just because he could; he liked to see what kind of reactions he could draw out. Fortunately, or unfortunately for him, he wasn’t going to take the bait* I have to agree with my sister. Wouldn’t that make both of us your type?
An: *Blinks and dead pans* See, my brother also likes that very rich mouse and bunnies. We’d both be your type.
Shuuji: *considers this* I didn’t say the Little Wing wasn’t my type, too. But if you’re gonna make me choose…
Kippei: *laughs and grins brightly - a stark contrast to his usually stern expression* Choose wisely, friend.
An: *rolls her eyes* I don’t think you have to choose~ *picks up her menu again* I only warn you that my brother snores in his sleep.
Shuuji: *shakes his head* I think he might have someone else that he has his eye on, anyway. At least he did back then. *smiles at Kippei* So I guess it’s me and you, Ladybug.
Kippei: *laughs knowing quite well exactly what Shuuji was implying, but he wasn’t going to give him the satisfaction of anything related to that, either* Still, quite a bold man to say such things in front of her big brother. And snoring in our sleep runs in the family.
An: *very amused as she looked back and forth between the two older boys* Oh, really? Anything I should know? *raises an eyebrow* Kippei, you shouldn't lie like that. You know that I sleep like I’m dead.
Shuuji: I do, too! Mornings are super tough for me. My ideal person would also have to be okay with me sleeping in, I think. *runs his fingers through his hair sheepishly* Didn’t really have time to comb my hair before I came here, either. *it looks perfect and he is ridiculous, as usual*
Kippei: I don’t lie. *laughs jovially, and looks over the menu as they talk*
An: *still looking through the menu* I don’t mind if you’d sleep in. Also, you’re fine. *smiles and sets her menu down* Strawberry cheesecake waffles for me. *looks to Kippei* You fib then.
Shuuji: *Looks over his menu at An* So… should our next date be a date-date?
Kippei: *glances up from over the top of the menu to look between them, curious to see where this was going to go - even letting go the comment about fibbing*
An: *didn’t actually think Shuuji would say that and is surprised* *avoids looking at both her brother and Shuuji* That’s a funny thing to say in front of my brother, I’d almost say brave.
Shuuji: *looks at Kippei, then back to An* Didn’t mean to make you feel put on the spot, if I did, Ladybug. Doesn’t have to be like that, either. *smiles genuinely, the teasing tone no longer in his voice*
Kippei: *resumes reviewing the menu, smiling a bit to himself, and ultimately settles on a waffle with a fried egg and seasoned potatoes on top. It wasn’t quite the sort of waffles he was used to seeing in Japan, but it sounded good*
An: *finally does look up to Shuuji and waves her hands* No it’s fine don’t worry about it. *runs her hand through her hair and looks back to Kippei’s smiling face and pouting*
Shuuji: *doesn’t want to embarrass An further, motions a server over even though he hasn’t picked what he wants. Asks the pretty server lady for her recommendation and just orders whatever she suggests along with the largest latte they will serve him*
Kippei: *also places his order, and asks for a mocha latte*
An: *orders her waffles and also orders a mocha latte* Just so you know I’m not copying, Kippei. *smiles before looking to Shuuji* So got any dirt on my brother from back then that I should know of?
Shuuji: *considers it - there is one thing…* Well, Kippei was super talkative in the public baths during the camp. Used to weird out all the quiet people there just to relax and get clean. A lot of dudes don’t want to talk to other dudes with their junk hanging out, you know.
Kippei: *laughs, a big dumb laugh, and rests his cheek on his palm with his elbow on the table* What, I enjoy a good conversation. I don’t know why people are so shy about those sorts of things.
An: *blinks and laughs as well* That sounds like my brother. He’s still just a country boy at heart and doesn’t realize when you should and shouldn’t talk. *sticks her tongue out at him*
Shuuji: *laughs* I probably missed out on some of those Tokyo social graces, too - I’m a bumpkin from the south. *when their coffee arrives, he makes short work of a few big sips*
Kippei: That’s right - can’t read social cues. *gives An a warm smile in return and once the coffee arrives, wraps his hands around the mug* I always forget that you’re also originally from down south. *sips the mocha latte - he certainly could never have accused An of stealing the idea from him, they had the same taste in many things* The Kansai-ben is a bit puzzling, though; as far as I know you’re not from Kansai, correct?
An: Aren’t we all? *snorts and cups her mug and takes a sip* I forgot to ask Shuuji-kun where he was from. *slips into Kumamoto ben* How south are you really?
Shuuji: More south than the two of you. *laughs*
Kippei: *also laughs* I’m impressed - usually the only time I get to hear our native dialect is when An is mad at me. That’s interesting, though. One of the southern islands, then?
An: I mean at home we talk more like that and yes..*tilts her head and snorts* It’s been a while since you’ve made me mad, do you want to try since you’re so fond of it? *looks to Shuuji* You look like you could maybe come from an island. You look tropical.
Shuuji: *laughs* “Tropical?” Like Fruit Punch? *just keeps laughing*
Kippei: *can’t help but think that proooobably isn’t what An was thinking, but laughs nonetheless* I don’t think that’s what she meant. *shakes his head and takes another sip of his latte* I could do without being in trouble with you. Besides, aren’t I always in trouble at home? If you ask Gran, anyway.
An: *smiles* No but if you like the idea of fruit punch why not. *shakes her head* Granny just enjoys yelling your name.
Shuuji: *in his best old lady voice* KIPPEI!!!! *this is loud enough to make the whole restaurant turn to look at them, he gives a winning smile*
Kippei: *the impression was spot on, but that didn’t stop Kippei from nodding politely to the patrons in the restaurant in apology, hopefully to turn their attention away from their table. Once he was sure that people weren’t paying them any mind, he laughed* I hate to say it, but that’s terribly accurate. She’s always yelling at me about something or other.
An: *eyes go wide for a moment before she decides to take the longest sip possible from her mug. Her brother could take care of it* Sounds pretty similar. Are you sure you’re not secretly an old lady, Shuuji-kun?
Shuuji: Not positive, exactly - only fools are positive. *grins. Their food arrives and he looks at the waffle he has basically already forgotten about - but it’s some sort of waffle that has bacon and maple mixed into the batter with fresh whipped butter and it looks great*
Kippei: *wastes exactly 0 seconds in digging into his food, using his knife and fork to split open the yolk to allow it to pool across the dips of the waffle* Then you spend a lot of time with them.
An: Well at least you don’t look like one. *grins and is happy to see her waffles* *watches her brother and shakes her head* Well maybe the hair color. That’s similar at least. *finally starts on her waffles and makes a happy sound*
Shuuji: *finds An’s happy waffle sound absolutely precious and can’t help but smile* How about you, Kippei - you never told us if you have dirt for me on the Ladybug.
Kippei: *chews thoughtfully* Dirt on An… well, there’s her habits at home…
An: *continues to smile but kicks her brother a little harder under the table.* He's just kidding around.
Shuuji: Well, now I don’t know who to believe… *feigns distress which is totally ruined by putting a piece of waffle in his mouth*
Kippei: *gently persuades An’s foot away from his shin with his own foot* It’s very cute. You know that stage in a relationship where you stop trying to impress and things become a bit more domestic?
An: Oh you should believe me~. *still pushing back* We all get a little more comfortable at home. Nothing too bad.
Shuuji: *nods thoughtfully* We do all get a bit more comfortable at home…
Kippei: *also nods - very sagely despite the assault upon his leg* Exactly, but she takes it to a whole new level…
An: *cuts into her waffle and makes it noticeable* He’s exaggerating. *chomps on her waffle*
Shuui: Actually, he hasn’t really said anything at all. He’s a good big brother. *smiles at An* And I think it’s good that you’re comfortable being yourself.
Kippei: *smiles* Exactly. I wouldn’t actually embarrass you like that, An. *takes another bite of his waffle*
An: *half pouts because that is true* He is, I won’t deny that. *smiles again* I just like giving him a hard time.
Shuuji: Wouldn’t be siblings if you didn’t. *it does remind him a bit of his two younger siblings and he thinks for a moment maybe he should video call with them after this* So, you guys got any big plans for your weekend?
Kippei: *cuts into the last bite of his waffle, splitting it in two, and puts a piece of it in his mouth* Hm… nothing in particular. I’m trying to get a couple of things organized, but other than that.
An: That’s true. I still think we get along better than some other siblings. *takes another bite from her waffle and stares at her brothers plate, clearly his mouth his bigger than hers* Same, cleaning my apartment, visiting my parents and our dog...study? *laughs* A bit boring isn’t it?
Shuuji: Nah, sounds nice. I think I’m gonna just chill with Honeybun today. She was acting antsy last night, she might need a good run. *gets distracted by his coffee, again, just holding it between his hands for a moment*
Kippei: That’s right - rabbits require a lot of exercise, don’t they? *finishes off the waffle and then also takes his mug into his hands again* And we do get along better than most other siblings, I’d say. *smiles at An*
An: You have a rabbit? *a bit surprised but does think that’s actually pretty cute* *smiles and takes another bite* Honeybun is a cute name. *stares at Kippei* As long as we don’t poke each other’s buttons. *teases*
Shuuji: *comes back to reality* Yeah, I’d actually like to get her a little brother or sister. Well, I doubt any brother or sister would be littler than her, she’s a dwarf lop, but younger, anyway.
Kippei: *laughs* Why would we do that? *finishes off the latte* I guess it would depend on whether or not you got another dwarf. Have you kept rabbits your whole life?
An: Because? *Laughs* Yeah, Onii-chan is right or maybe they'll be the same size. *Finishes in her waffle and picks up her latte* They seem like they're harder to keep than dogs.
Shuuji: She’s my first rabbit, so it’s been a learning curve. They need a lot of attention, socialization, and exercise. And their diet is actually more complex than just veggies. They actually don’t eat carrots, did you know that? *grins* But, she keeps me company in that big condo so it doesn’t get lonely.
Kippei: I didn’t know that - how interesting. They actually sound much more difficult than dogs, though the walks through the rainy season are admittedly not my favorite.
An: Didn't know that either~ But Gokutora does need those three as well. *Sighs* I wish I could keep him in my apartment. *Laughs* Your rabbit probably isn't gassy like our dog. That's a pain.
Shuuji: *laughs* No, she isn’t. And she doesn’t go on walks, she does all of her exercising by getting the zoomies in my living room.
Kippei: He may be gassy, but he’s cute, so he has that going for him. *laughs* “Zoomies?”
An: Of course he's cute. *Nods and tilts her head* What is that?
Shuuji: *laughs* Well, you know when bunnies just run around in circles like crazy… then they drop to the ground like they’re dead for a few moments. Then, you know, the zoomies resume.
Kippei: It sounds funny, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen it. Is it one of those things that I would find on YouTube?
An: *laughs* That sounds scary if you don't know if that it's a thing you do *laughs* Probably is something you can find online.
Shuuji: I bet you could find it on YouTube. Or you could come meet Honeybun sometime, if you would like to. She is super cute and likes new friends.
Kippei: Sounds great to me. *runs his fingers along the rim of the empty mug* Especially if you’re a dating prospect for my sister. *grins*
An: I wouldn’t mind meeting her. *smiles and takes a sip of her latte* *resists the urge to roll her eyes* Maybe he ends up liking you more Onii-chan, I’ll have to make sure he’s good for you.
Shuuji: *suddenly wondering if these two are going to be a package deal all the time* Well… I mean, you could both come over and meet her. Plenty of room for everybody.
Kippei: I bet you will. *laughs and pokes at An’s leg under the table playfully* Thank you for the invitation. We’ll take you up on that.
An: *feels bad for Shuuji in some ways* I’d love to meet Honeybun. *smiles up at Shuuji and pokes back at her brother’s leg*
Shuuji: Then I guess you’re both coming over to meet her. *grins* Maybe I’ll make us all waffles. Though, speaking of waffles, this place is great. I didn’t even know it was here - thanks for recommending it, Little Wing.
Kippei: You’re welcome. I’ll never say no to waffles. *looks around and flags down a waiter so that they can pay*
An: How well are you on the cooking front? *finishes up her latte* I don’t think you’ll ever say no to food.
Shuuji: Well, my specialty is actually Chinese food, but I can cook up a mean breakfast if what you want is waffles. *grins, grabs his wallet and doesn’t let anyone else get the check, just pays*
Kippei: *laughs* An’s right - I’ll never say no to food just in general. Coincidently, I also enjoy Chinese food. *doesn’t argue Shuuji paying - it’s what he was going to do had he gotten to the waiter first*
An: Is someone ever going to let me pay for my own meal? *shakes her head* Chinese food is good, I really like dumplings.
Shuuji: Well, if I’m making you both Chinese food, how ‘bout you buy the groceries, Ladybug?
Kippei: I’d be happy to go shopping with you, An, to help out.
An: *smiles* That’ll work then. Just send me a list of what you need and we’ll get it.
Shuuji: Perfect! *downs the rest of his coffee* Well, it has been a pleasure to enjoy breakfast with both of you - I’ll get you that list and we can figure out a day to have food and bunny snuggles. *grins* And don’t forget your Bananyas.
Kippei: *picks up his keychain and hands An’s to her* Of course, we can’t forget that. Thank you again. It was a great breakfast.
An: *grabs her keychain and tucks it safely into her bag* *grins* We can do that and thanks for both the very cute keychain and breakfast. We’ll make it up to you soon.
Shuuji: It’s my pleasure. I’m sure we’ll catch up online before now and then, too. *gets up, checks his pockets for his wallet and phone* Hope you guys enjoy the rest of your day.
Kippei: And the same to you. *comes around to the other side of the table and sets his hand on An’s shoulder.
An: Ah, you too. *smiles and eyes her brothers hand and waits for Shuuji to leave before giving it a slight pinch* Do you have to do that?
Kippei: *innocently* Do what?
An: You’re doing that thing where you grab my shoulder and be all “Look, I’m her big brother. Remember that.” *half pouts*
Kippei: *laughs* That’s not at all why I was doing it. Should I have a reason to?
An: *stares up at him and bumps her hip into him* Hmm, who knows.
Kippei: Something your big brother should know about? *bumps her hip in return, raises an eyebrow, and gently guides her toward the door*
An: *rolls her eyes* No, nothing that you need to know at the moment. *links her arm together with his* *smiles* Should I know anything?
Kippei: *leads her outside and starts walking down the street* Not at all. Assuming you mean Tanegashima-san.
An: I think I’m good. I’m pretty sure he was joking about that date.
Kippei: He may have been. *glances at her* Would you consider going on a date with him if he wasn’t?
An: *looks up at him and blinks before turning away* I don’t know...maybe? I…*sighs* *imightlikesomeoneanddontwanttotellyouorknowhowto* He seems like a really nice guy.
Kippei: *watches her curiously* You don’t need to tell me anything if you don’t want to. I know you’d come to me if you needed my advice.
An: *Smiles* Yeah...I would so don’t worry about it.
