Of course both cakes featured strawberries, honestly the main reason why he had volunteered to judge, but each cake had its own approach to supporting and offsetting that fresh taste. That these two had succeeded not only in making their version but also in creating something that worked well as a counterpoint to their opponents cake was a sign of the bakers skills and certainly to be marked. It didn’t really lend itself to determining a winner however. Since both cakes were well made it might come down to a simple question of personal preference, as much as he disliked that idea.
