Who: Niou Masaharu and Yagyuu Hiroshi
What: Niou visits to test out the structural integrity of Yagyuu's bed in Mikiya Mansion and things just go downhill from there. We actually don't know what happened.
When: Last Friday
Where: Yagyuu's room
Rating: ... PG?
Niou made his way to Mikiya mansion, bag rustling in his hand as he skipped up the steps to the second floor. He was technically there to visit Yagyuu, but he had to make a quick sidestop to visit his neighbour as well. Who Niou knew wasn’t there because she was working at that precise moment. Niou took out a piece of paper, opened the can of anchovies he was carrying, placed a single anchovy on the paper and slid it carefully under the door.
That done, he could go annoy Yagyuu and knock on his door multiple times. “Hiroshi-kun~” he called out, knocking again. “Your adult services is here.”
As he underlined a few keywords on the text, the chorus of strings began rise only to be interrupted by a series of sharp knocks on his door. His hand jolted causing the highlighter to go off tangent on the page. Yagyuu shot the door an irritated look and took off his earphones.
He stood up and sighed before walking over to the door and unlocking it. “Niou-kun, please keep your voice down,” he said, pushing up his glasses. “I’d rather not deal with any noise complaints from the others.”
Niou grinned as the door opened and stepped past Yagyuu into the room. “As if your neighbours aren’t noisier than me,” he said, handing Yagyuu the opened tin of anchovies on the way through. “Happy birthday, my friend,” he said, patting Yagyuu on the shoulder.
He toed off his shoes and skipped into the room, having a good look around. He hadn’t been in one of these rooms yet, let alone Yagyuu’s and he wanted to have a good poke around first before the bed testing started. The wardrobe seemed a good place to start.
Yagyuu stared at the opened tin in his hands, briefly debating whether or not to just leave it outside in the hallway for someone else to deal with. The sharp stench wafting from it made him want flush down the contents into the nearest toilet. He glanced behind him, his lips forming a thin line. There was no way he was going to leave Niou alone in his room.
He shut the door with a nudge of his hip before rummaging through a drawer for a spare plastic bag to wrap the can in before chucking it into his mini fridge. Yagyuu sniffed his hands to check for any smell and nodded. At least none of it had stuck. With that dealt with, he aimed a light kick at Niou’s shin. “Stop messing up my things, Niou-kun,” he said, folding his arms over his chest.
Niou was caught just as he was opening the wardrobe door and he flinched at the kick. “Ow,” he said, whacking Yagyuu lightly on the arm back. “That was unnecessarily violent there, Hiroshi,” he said, reaching down to rub at his leg.
“So, how are you? Besides in a grumpy mood?” Because clearly Yagyuu was. Niou moved over to the bed and patted the covers lightly - nicely made up of course. “Are you sleeping okay?”
“I’ve found that sometimes, actions speak louder than words.” Yagyuu replied, shooting Niou a withering look before settling down by his desk.
He glanced at his abandoned readings and fixed the papers, resigning himself to just continuing his work the next day instead. “Sleep is sleep,” he said, shrugging. He put the highlighters and pens back into the pen holder beside the desk lamp. “I don’t suppose you’re having any trouble at night, are you?” At this, he looked back at Niou on his bed.
Niou took the opportunity to lie down on Yagyuu’s bed, moving the pillow to a comfortable spot and stared at the ceiling. “Well I mean, I think dreams make sleeping a bit more exciting.” He turned his head sideways to look at Yagyuu and raised an eyebrow. “I mean, sometimes I dream about you and I get really restless and can’t get back to sleep. It’s rather annoying, actually.”
He paused and moved the pillow slightly. It really wasn’t as good as Yagyuu’s ones back at home. “I’m sure if you dreamed of me, your sleep quality would change too.” For the worse, he predicted Yagyuu would say and Niou cackled to himself.
Yagyuu raised an eyebrow then leaned back against the seat and folded his legs over each other. “Having you in my dreams as well would be too much, don’t you think?” He looked back at Niou. “Besides, sleep doesn’t have to be exciting. It just needs to be enough for us to function properly the next day.”
“Oh I suppose,” Niou said, looking at the ceiling again. He slowly moved to manoeuvre under the blankets, settling down with a pleased sigh. “I mean, with how much excitement I bring into your everyday life, who knows what I’d do in your dreams.”
He laughed softly to himself and turned his head to look at Yagyuu again. “I once had a dream you were giving me weirdly sexual electric shocks to my nipples. And then I woke up, and you were standing on the opposite side of the room. And I got such a fright, I woke up for real, and you weren’t there.”
If Yagyuu was perturbed, he didn’t show it, instead he adjusted his glasses and hummed. “Have you been looking at strange things again before you sleep?” he asked, tapping his fingers against the surface of the desk. “Or maybe, you’re just restless, Niou-kun.”
The corners of his lips quirked up in amusement. “Perhaps something is bothering you. It isn’t healthy keeping things bottled up, you know?” He remarked with an idle wave of his hand.
What, was this becoming some kind of psychiatrist appointment now? “Ah, but I keep all my secrets always bottled up inside, Hiroshi, you know that,” Niou said, shuffling across to make room on the bed. “And they make me restless sometimes.”
He patted the newly freed part of the bed. “Come here, I need you to sit here so I can test the structural stability and shock absorbance of the mattress.”
Holding a hand up, Yagyuu shook his head. “No thank you, there’s barely enough space for the both of us there and it’s warm enough as it is.” He tilted his head to the side and let small smirk appear on his face. “Maybe you and the weight of your secrets could test my bed’s structural integrity together instead.”
Niou narrowed his eyes at Yagyuu. “I’d rather test it with you and your warm body and weight,” he said, patting the bed again, pointedly shuffling over just a tiny bit more. He gestured at all the room there was for Yagyuu’s bum to go. “Come on Hiroshi, you weigh more. And I’m all tucked up and warm here, it’s not like I can do anything to you.” No random prodding with his feet. No sitting on Yagyuu and being annoying. No tricks... Maybe.
At that, a wave of self-consciousness washed over Yagyuu as felt his hand briefly touch his stomach and lightly pat himself. It felt a bit soft but surely that was the sweatshirt he was wearing. Although maybe it was time to stop skipping leg days at the nearby gym. Sure there were handouts to read and notes to revise but none of them was an excuse to slack off.
Before any of his thoughts could go on, his eyes trailed from his hand to the spot beside Niou. After a moment, he got up and sat on the edge of the bed as if he was ready move back to his chair. “There. Surely this is enough proof that my bed is adequate.”
Niou looked slightly confused at Yagyuu patting himself… but thankfully didn’t dwell on it too much as Yagyuu finally caved and came over.
He grinned and rolled over, wrapping his arms around Yagyuu’s waist so he couldn’t escape. “It’s really not. The edge of the bed could be more supported than the rest of it.” Niou said this all rather matter-of-factly, tugging Yagyuu closer and further onto the bed. “And what if you have a lady friend over for the night? I doubt you’ll be hanging out on the edges together.”
Yagyuu resisted the urge to snort.
“It’s a good thing that I don’t have any to bring back then.” He said, poking Niou at the side to let him go. He settled himself near the headboard and stole the pillow Niou had been laying down on to place on top of his lap.
“What, have you made no lady friends in your classes?” Niou asked, flinching at the poke to his side. Unfair! Even more unfair was his pillow being taken from him! Niou grumbled and moved, draping himself over Yagyuu’s lap to reclaim the pillow for himself. “And you could have best friends in your bed too, you know. Like right now.”
“Not the sort that you’re implying,” Yagyuu answered, nudging Niou so he could move his legs into a more comfortable position. If he wanted to, he could easily push Niou off his lap with how light he seemed to be. As he unfolded his legs under the combined weight Niou and the pillow, Yagyuu idly wondered if he was eating enough.
“Besides,” he said as his hands began to toy with Niou’s rattail. “It feels more like some large pest has stolen my bed instead.”
Niou just made a grumpy noise as Yagyuu moved, determinedly staying where he was and making it as difficult as possible. He tucked his arms under the pillow to prop it up a bit more.
“I would’ve thought lady friends would be more of a pest than me,” he said, closing his eyes at the feeling of hands in his hair. “Wanting kisses and hand holdings and whatever else it is that lady friends want.” Niou prodded at Yagyuu’s thighs under the pillow and laughed. “I just want to invade your bed and get warm beverages.”
Yagyuu twitched at the hands poking his thighs. His movements stilled for a moment before continuing to run his fingers through Niou’s hair.
“How can something that isn’t here be a pest?” He pointed out. Despite getting caught onto a few knots here and there, his hair was smooth and soft to the touch. “By definition, your invasion of my personal space and drain on my wallet is more of a nuisance than any ‘lady friend’ who’d merely want my affections.”
“Absolutely none at all?” Niou asked, making soft, pleased noises at the hair petting. “Are you an asshole to them and chase them off?”
Niou paused and then sighed loudly. “I decided. I want to make myself more a pest to you, Hiroshi, just to cover all bases,” he said, grinning. He shifted a little and moved his arm, twisting it awkwardly to wave it vaguely in front of Yagyuu. “I want your affections too. Hold my hand.”
He tilted his head to the side, just narrowly avoiding having his glasses knocked off by Niou’s errant hand. “I didn’t say I don’t have any female friends,” Yagyuu said, mildly irate as he adjusted his glasses. “Just not the sort that you’re implying.”
Feeling that Niou’s hand was getting closer and closer to his face again, Yagyuu grabbed it. He held it in place and sighed softly. “Wouldn’t becoming a bigger pest imply that you prefer my animosity over affection instead?”
This was quite a painful position actually and Niou carefully rolled over, tightening his grip on Yagyuu’s hand in case the other man wanted to let go. “That is so surprising to me,” he said, actually half honestly. “Do you put anchovies in their shoes or something, to chase them away?”
It was a bit more comfortable on his back and Niou brought their hands close to his face so he could inspect Yagyuu’s. “I think there’s a very fine line between animosity and affection with you, Hiroshi,” he said, interlacing their fingers together. “You show your many affections towards me with grumpiness and rudeness.”
Yagyuu merely hummed in reply. Letting Niou think whatever he’d like was far easier than explaining what his classmates were like.
He leaned against the wall and turned his gaze towards the ceiling, his other hand laying slack beside him. “Don’t confuse me for you,” he said, rolling his eyes. “The anchovies are your doing, not mine.” His nose scrunched up briefly at the thought of it. Poor An-chan. It would take days for the stench to disappear.
As he was about to start counting the stains that dotted his ceiling, he felt Niou’s breath against his hand and peered down at him. He studied him for a moment before brushing the bangs away from the other man’s face.
“You have an inner Masaharu that likes to come out and make you do naughty things sometimes, I know that,” Niou said. And he had an outer Masaharu and an inner Hiroshi that occasionally made him do sensible things. “Although your weapon of choice might be different to anchovies now that I think about it…”
He blinked up at Yagyuu as his hair was moved before he returned his gaze to Yagyuu’s hand. “Your writing callus is getting bigger,” he said, rubbing his thumb against the spot of skin curiously.
A slight shiver ran through him as Niou lightly circled his thumb on the small area of thick skin. He pulled his hand away from Niou’s hold. “Three of my professors don’t allow printed notes.” Yagyuu explained, keeping his hand by his side.
He cleared his throat and pushed his glasses up. “We may have each of those but they’re still different,” he said, slightly shifting his legs under Niou. “I’d like to think that my supposed ‘inner Niou-kun’ has more subtlety than the actual one.”
Niou made sad grabby hand motions at the air as Yagyuu moved his hand away. He rolled onto his side and faced Yagyuu’s stomach, curling up his legs to squash more onto the bed.
“I can be subtle, you know. I just choose not to be,” Niou said. Even as he said that though, he quite unsubtly snuck his hand up Yagyuu’s shirt to poke at his side, tickling lightly with the tips of his fingers.
A bubble of laughter escaped Yagyuu’s throat as he flinched away from Niou’s fingers. He felt the pinprick of goosebumps rise along his arms..”What are you doing?” He hissed, glaring at Niou. He quickly pulled his hand out by the wrist from under his shirt.
“Trying to feel up your kidneys to see if I could switch one with you,” Niou said, poking out his tongue. He grinned and moved Yagyuu’s hand, very carefully hitching up his shirt and placing it on his side. A scarily open invitation to tickle, especially since he couldn’t exactly make the best of eye contact in their position. “In case the liver eating doesn’t work out, you know?”
He could feel it- the beginnings of a migraine. Yagyuu slowly exhaled through his nose and gave Niou a look of exasperation. “Alright, but what about this?” He asked, his eyes flickering to his hand on top of Niou’s bare skin. “Am I trying to also assess your kidneys?”
The warm hand on his side was actually kind of nice, what with Yagyuu not tickling him or anything. Niou let himself breathe again.
“Well, your hand’s kind of in the wrong position for feeling up kidneys,” he said. Niou took a hold of Yagyuu’s hand again and guided it around to his back. “You need to be more here.”
Yagyuu rolled his eyes. “Niou-kun, I know where they are,” he said, lightly poking Niou in the back. “Your kidneys are located along the posterior muscular wall of the abdominal cavity.” As he recited what he remembered from his textbooks, he trailed his finger lightly over the said area.
He preferred his vague knowledge of their location to this boring textbook reciting. Niou hunched his shoulders at the very vaguely ticklish touch down his back. “You’re giving me goosebumps, Hiroshi,” he complained, curling his toes and shifting his legs “It’s like you’re about to stab me in the kidney, instead of giving me a best friend kidney inspection.”
“If I could, that wouldn’t be the only place I’d stab you in.” Yagyuu muttered darkly. Without another thought, he jabbed the spot with his finger.
Niou jerked at the inappropriately vicious stab to the back. “Ow, Yagyuu,” he complained. His fingers twitched and he moved closer, pushing Yagyuu’s shirt up to bite his side, maybe just a little harder than he’d originally intended.
Yagyuu yelped and jolted from his place, pushing Niou off of him. “What the hell, Niou-kun?” He spat. Lifting his shirt up to check his side, he could make out the faint indents of Niou’s teeth on his skin. He looked back at the other man and glared. “Are you an animal or something? Has your landlady forgotten to feed you before you left earlier?”
If he hadn’t been rather ungracefully shoved off, Niou might have laughed at the combination of Yagyuu’s ever-polite Niou-kun with his ‘what the hell’. He just shrugged at the question and moved back to Yagyuu’s lap, settling back down on his stomach. “I was just curious. And now you got your first ever bite mark.” Niou cackled to himself and he really wanted to look at it, but he stuck his hands under Yagyuu’s thighs instead to stop himself. “You can tell everyone at uni about it.”
“I don’t want to hear that from you.” He grumbled, shaking his head. He lifted his shirt again and peered at it. The mark didn’t look like it was anything deep. It would soon fade away into smooth, even skin later. “Getting a bite mark from one’s friend isn’t something to brag about.”
He really did want to poke and prod at the mark and Niou made a grumpy noise as he stuck his face in the pillow and stopped himself. Having self control sucked. It took a little while but Niou finally settled down again, stretching out his arms and flopping them over the side of the bed. “You could lie you know. Tell everyone it was a bite mark from a particularly exciting lady friend.”
He shrugged and hitched up the bottom of his shirt slightly to show Yagyuu his back. “If you’re that offended by me biting you, you can bite me back, I don’t care.”
Yagyuu raised an eyebrow and tugged the end of Niou’s shirt to cover his back. “No thank you,” he said, taking off his glasses for a moment to rub his temple. “If it’s all the same to you, I’d rather not.” He put back his glasses and looked at Niou evenly. “And besides, if I did have a lady friend of that sort, don’t you think I’d have made sure to choose someone a bit more discrete?”
If he turned his head to the side, he could see Yagyuu’s face out of the corner of his eye and he stared back, looking at his glasses-less face. “Hey, I bit you on the side, under your clothes,” Niou said with a smile, twisting an arm to prod Yagyuu on the neck. “I could’ve given you a great bite right here, to show all your friends.”
He brushed away Niou’s hand with the back of his. “You could have, but you didn’t,” Yagyuu said with a nod of his head. He tapped Niou on the forehead and a small smirk appeared on his face. “Don’t project onto me what you want, Niou-kun. If you’d like, I’m sure we could ask An-chan to introduce you to a nice girl.”
“Don’t tempt me, I might still do it,” Niou said, tucking his arm back under the pillow. He stared at the opposite side of the room, looking at Yagyuu’s desk and he was quiet for a few moments after Yagyuu spoke. “I’m not really interested in girls that Batman-chan could introduce me to,” he said finally, chewing over the words carefully.
The pause was long enough that Yagyuu glanced down at Niou and found him looking away at the other side. He turned the words in his head, considering what they meant. He let it sink in for a few more moments before opening his mouth to speak. “Just the girls that An-chan could introduce or anyone?” He asked carefully as he slowly placed his hand on top of Niou’s arm as if to hold him in place.
Ah, of course Yagyuu would ask further prying questions. And have a hand on his arm as though he could tell Niou had been eying the window as an escape route. “Batman-chan seems like she would only know boring girls,” Niou said flippantly. “Also, I need to pee, Yagyuu.”
The change of name hadn’t escaped him. His grip on Niou’s arm tightened by a fraction. “You haven’t drank anything since you got here, Masaharu.” Yagyuu said, his eyes narrowing behind his glasses. “But if you insist, then allow me to show you the way. After all, it’s your first time here at the mansion, isn’t it?”
Niou drummed an impatient pattern onto Yagyuu’s thighs under the pillow and he sighed. “I’ll hold on. I don’t need you watching over me as I pee, it’s weird.” Yagyuu really did know him far too well. “Also…” Niou lifted himself up a little so he could turn and properly look at Yagyuu. “Masaharu? What sort of special thing have I done to deserve that?”
“Are you sure?” He asked with a raise of his eyebrow. “It’s of no consequence for me to accompany you to the toilet. I wouldn’t want you to hold back on my account.” Then Yagyuu pulled Niou’s hand out from under the pillow. He placed it on top of Niou’s stomach and tapped his thumb against it in an indiscernible rhythm. “No reason,” Yagyuu said dismissively. “Do I need an occasion to call you that?”
“I’m sure. I haven’t needed to be accompanied to the toilet for many years,” Niou said, settling back down on his pillow. Escape via the door or window was getting further and further away. He looked at Yagyuu’s face, narrowing his eyes slightly at the tone of the question. “I just don’t hear it very often from you. Like you save it for certain situations or something.” He reached up with his free hand to flick Yagyuu lightly on the nose. “Maybe when you feel particularly smug that you’re seeing through my bullshit.”
Yagyuu scrunched up his nose and rubbed the spot that Niou had flicked. An urge to grin coursed through him as his friend settled back down. Niou knew him quite well. Instead, he kept his face devoid of any expression except a small smile. “Of course you don’t,” he said placatingly. “But you’re a guest and this is your first time here. I wouldn’t want you to get lost.”
Pausing for a moment, Yagyuu let out a thoughtful sound. “Maybe,” He wondered out loud. “It’s because you insist on being obstinate as well.”
Niou stared flatly at Yagyuu - getting lost to the toilet indeed! - and his frown just increased. “What am I being obstinate about?” he asked, feeling almost accused. “I think you’re much more stubborn than me.”
He shifted around a little bit more before he closed his eyes and held onto Yagyuu’s hand to feign sleep. “I think you’re being very nosey today too.”
Yagyuu shrugged. “Not as nosey as you were, I’m sure.” he said airily as he eyed Niou falling asleep. His mouth formed a thin line before he squeezed Niou’s hand and slightly lifted a leg to jog him. “Don’t fall asleep, Niou-kun. I’m not in the mood to push you around later for space to sleep in.”
“Maybe I’ll be like Sleeping Beauty and only wake up with a true love’s kiss or whatever it is,” Niou said, stubbornly staying on Yagyuu’s lap with his eyes closed. He kept a firm grip on Yagyuu’s hand though, squeezing back. “And you’ll be stuck with me in your bed forever. Because cats hate you.”
“As if that would work,” Yagyuu said, snorting. He resigned himself to just pushing Niou off of him later as he shifted a bit to make himself more comfortable. Next time, he’d buy more pillows. “Plus, if cats hated me then I’m sure I’d have my bed back by now."
“That’s true,” Niou said, opening one eye to look up at Yagyuu. “I guess, maybe if you kissed me, it might wake me up, but I’d probably need to vomit straight away.” He cackled to himself and patted Yagyuu’s hand before closing his eye again. “Also, I’m not a cat in this life.”
“You’d be so lucky if anyone kissed you,” Yagyuu replied as a corner of his mouth lifted up. He looked at the wall across the room and let himself count the spots marring the off-white wallpaper. “Maybe not, but you’re close enough to one."
“You are so rude, Hiroshi.” Niou rolled onto his side to curl up better, shifting the pillow a little and he tucked their held hands under his chin. “I’ll have you know, I’ve kissed you before.” He kept his eyes closed and his face neutral to hide his lie. “You didn’t wake up though.”
He narrowed his eyes at Niou and searching his face for anything suspicious. There was no grin or smile to accompany his words. Yagyuu smirked. “It must’ve been terrible enough that my body decided to spare me the horrors of your lack of skill then.”
“I know you’re baiting me because you want me to puff up and prove my skills to you,” Niou said, poking Yagyuu lightly in the stomach. “But I’m not going to fall for your sneaky ways.” He let out a sleepy sounding sigh.
Yagyuu swatted Niou’s finger away from his stomach and placed a hand over it in case the latter decided to poke him again. “I never said about proving anything.” he said, gently twirling a lock of Niou’s hair on his finger. “And if anyone is being rather shifty, it’s you.”
Niou laughed a little to himself and patted Yagyuu roughly in the zone of his chest and stomach. He wasn’t going to reply to the accusations, instead yawning, purposely loudly. “Good night, Hiroshi. I hope to have weirdly sexual dreams about you electrocuting my nipples again,” Niou said, with a loud snore following.
“Niou-kun…” he said exasperated. A tinge of frustration was beginning to well up inside him. Yagyuu took off his glasses and pinched the bridge of his nose. Niou was being stubborn and his legs were beginning to feel numb. If he didn’t want to talk, then it was fine. There was always next time.
He let a few moments pass by before making up his mind. His hand hovered over Niou’s chest as a voice in his head that sounded distinctively like the other’s whispered do it. A smirk flashed on Yagyuu’s face before he pinched Niou’s nipples.
It had meant to be a joke but Niou actually did feel himself starting to drift off. Yagyuu’s lap was quite comfortable and it was just nice and quiet, and his eyes were closed…
And then he felt a pinch on his chest and Niou jerked, thrashed around, and rolled off the bed with a thump. “What the fuck?” Ow, the floor hurt. And now he was certainly wide awake. But Niou just curled on his side and pressed his hands to his nipples. “You just...” He was actually a little speechless as he pressed his hands a bit harder against his chest. “Why?”
The sight of Niou thrashing around made him want to laugh but instead, Yagyuu kept his face carefully neutral as he raised an eyebrow. “It was either that or the taser,” he simply explained, letting his eyes wander to his desk. Not that he owned one but Niou didn’t know that.
“According to Freud, dreams are a result of our desires,” he said as he shook his legs. There was an uncomfortable tingle for a few seconds that quickly disappeared as soon as the blood began to flow again. He stretched his arms and looked at Niou through the corner of his eyes. “And you know what they say, don’t let your dreams just be dreams.”
Niou pulled away the collar of his shirt and looked down it, inspecting. And then he sighed and flopped onto his back on the floor. It was not as comfortable as the bed. “That was not weirdly sexual, I’ll have you know,” he said, still looking up at Yagyuu in disbelief. “You could have… I don’t know, done some foreplay or something leading up to it. Not just pinched them.”
Yagyuu shrugged as he straightened out the sheets and blanket of his bed. When he was satisfied with them, he sat at the edge of the bed and drummed his fingers against his lap. “Niou-kun, get up,” he said, nudging Niou in the side with his foot. “You can take the bed.” He stood up and walked over to the mini fridge, pulling out the can of anchovies. “I’m going to take this to the kitchen.”
Wait what. Niou blinked as Yagyuu got up and openly invited him to lie on the bed. “Alright.” He pulled himself up onto the bed, shuffling over to squash against the side. “I’ll leave you plenty of space for you to lie down too,” Niou said, gesturing at the other part of the bed. Although he probably should head off for dinner at some point.
Maybe while Yagyuu was down in the kitchen he could make his escape.
“Don’t bother,” Yagyuu said with a wave of his hand. “I have things to read so do as you please.” He slipped his feet into a pair of slippers by the door as he opened it, careful to not spill any of the open can’s contents. Considering how earlier went, the chances of Niou still being there when he came back was slim. He sighed softly to himself. There was a lot of things to think about and do till next time, he thought as he made his way to the kitchen.
Niou laid there and counted as Yagyuu left, waiting to be entirely sure that he was gone. And then Niou hopped off the bed, heading straight for Yagyuu’s notes. There he left a heart and a cat drawing over the text in highlighter before he grabbed his shoes and headed for the window.
2nd floor, not too hard to climb down from.
