Cakes have been baked and decorated and all that is left is to taste! Win or lose in the end everyone gets cake. Isn't that what truly matters?

This Open log is open to everyone even if a character didn't comment and say that they were explicitly coming. Open area free for all.

TRY TACHIBANA AN'S CAKE HERE

An was quite happy with the way her cake had turned out. She had been thinking about what she could make since the star of the cake had to be strawberries. Not wanting to over think it she decided to make her favorite chocolate cake and filled it with a lovely strawberry buttercream frosting with plenty of fresh pureed strawberries.

To finish the cake off she added a chocolate drip and a few strawberries on top to add color. Done! Even if she didn't win An certainly had enjoyed making it. Not to mention getting to eat it as well~

"It looks really good, Tachibana-chan~" said excitedly as he creeped over as An was adding the finishing touches to the decor. His cake, being simpler, was already finished, which gave him the chance to ogle over his competitors. "You are really good at this, I might be in trouble."

Having already decided to vote for An even before trying–yes he could be a gentleman sometimes–he couldn't seem more eager to dig in. "What is the that frosting? Can I try it?" a finger stretched out towards the edge of the plate.

Having placed the final strawberry on it's side, An smiled to herself and let out a happy sigh as she turned to Marui and eye'd his cake that wasn't to far away. " Your cake isn't half bad either. I just like decorating."

An was really interested in trying Marui's cake , wasn't this whole cake off an excuse to just try cake?

Raising an eyebrow as his finger creeped towards her plate she pulled out her pastry bag and quickly dolloped some frosting on to his finger. " No touching and it's a strawberry buttercream."

Happily with the taster he got, Marui brought the finger to his mouth and his eyes widened a little. "Um! I like it," he said looking back at his cake. "It's not as festive as I could have liked, but I went to a more mature cake," he added before continued. "You know, Akaya won't be here until late, do you mind if I save him a slice?"

An's smile widen at the approval. "Mature cake? I did notice the ingredients and I'm excited to try." At the mention of Kirihara, she pulled out a cake knife and cut out a out portion. "Don't mind at all, I did say we would save him some." See? wasn't she the nicest?

Marui smiled and took the slice, pulling his cake closer and cutting, taking on slice as well and putting it together with An's. "In theory, we shouldn't be doing this, but I can't help it~" he wrapped it well and went to hide the plate behind the scary Okinawan's veggies. "Do you cook a lot, Tachibana-chan?" he asked casually, looking at her as he fixed the vegetable well to hide the plate. He wasn't sure why he was hiding, since he was the one who stole other people's food at Basil Gardens.

TRY MARUI BUNTA'S CAKE HERE

Marui wasn't particularly fond of baking in front of people other than his family and maybe Jackal or Akaya, and anyone he felt wouldn't be too judging of the fact that he ate a lot while cooking. He did it without thinking. The ingredients all lying there, smelling so nice and sweet. How could anyone resist?! It was only when someone in his home economics class back in school pointed out that he was pigging out that he realised yet another bad habit of his.

This time, not only people he knew from back in the day–and didn't trust to keep their judgements to themselves–but also random Basil Gardens residents came along to watch the bake off unfold, eager to try the free desert the two of them were crafting. Marui decided to try something new, in this way, he would have to pay more attention to the recipe rather than stuff his face while working on a cake he could bake blindfolded.

Settling for an 'adult' cake, he went with a Strawberry-Lime Daiquiri Poke Cake, with rum, whipped vanilla frosting and a less fancy decor than he would have liked.

By the time both Marui and An were done baking, the redhead wanted nothing but to try both desserts. He cut slices and handing to whoever was judging first, remembering to save a slice of both his and An's for Akaya, storing away safely behind Kite's veggies so no one would look there.

JUDGES JUDGE HERE

Looking thoughtfully from one slice of cake to the other Tezuka takes notes then turns each plate until he is satisfied with having seen the cakes from every side. Only then does he trade his pen for a fork and breaks off the first piece of the left hand side cake.

Bringing it up he inhales the subtle scent of the strawberries before slipping the delectable morsel between thin lips, already parted in anticipation. Lashes sliding shut at the first tart explosion of strawberry across his pallet he savours that bite. Conscientiously cataloging the different textures and nuanced flavours he only picks up his pen to note down his observations when the last lingering trace of the cake clinging to his lips has been hunted down by the agile tip of his tongue darting out to whisk across them.

It was like something out of a variety show to see the extremely serious tennis player turn his intense focus to cake. While Tezuka took his time examining the cakes from every angle, Zaizen took a killer photo of the stunning cakes for instagram. Only when the photo was perfect did he sample each cake. With each delicate bite, he was careful to contain every unique element and preserve the perfect cake-to-frosting ratio as the bakers intended.

"Actually," Zaizen commented, more to himself than Tezuka. "They complement well."

Glancing over at his fellow judge Tezuka considered the point that had been raised. Of course both cakes featured strawberries, honestly the main reason why he had volunteered to judge, but each cake had its own approach to supporting and offsetting that fresh taste. That these two had succeeded not only in making their version but also in creating something that worked well as a counterpoint to their opponents cake was a sign of the bakers skills and certainly to be marked. It didn’t really lend itself to determining a winner however. Since both cakes were well made it might come down to a simple question of personal preference, as much as he disliked that idea. Maybe offering to judge a bake off had been a little careless after all.

DRINK TABLE AND MINGLING

As promised, Yanagi refrained from passing judgement on the cakes, instead helping with setting up the beverages. He made himself a nice hot cup of tea and parked himself in a corner to watch the chaos unfold.

Sanada spotted Yanagi, a safe harbour in the chaos around the cakes, and headed towards him. "Renji," He said in greeting with a nod before taking up position beside him with his own cup of tea. "I didn't know you were a cake expert."

"I could ask the same of you," Yanagi said with a slight smile. "You don't really like sweets, do you?"

"No." And when he did indulge he preferred the traditional Japanese variety. Though a shortcake on birthdays and Christmas was acceptable when eaten with friends or family. "But I thought it would be a good chance for a photo and visit friends." It was hard to clear enough time in his schedule to get all the way out this way so it was always nice when he could do several things in one trip.

"That's as good a reason as any," Yanagi agreed. He looked around at the room. "I'm just here to observe the chaos, but why don't we take a photo now?"

"Do you know if Seiichi is coming?" Sanada asked as he dug out his phone. He then flicked on the camera function before handing it to Yanagi. If they were going to take a selfie, Yanagi had the longer arms.

Kamio and Shinji had spent the better part of the afternoon hunched over a piece of posterboard, which had been carefully fashioned into the shape of a cake. One look at the design made it clear where the boys had focused their attention: many glitter glue strawberries and colorful fruit stickers surrounded a hastily written GANBATTE AN-CHAN!

The strawberries at the bottom of the design may have suffered in producing the light flush of drink on both of their faces. To enhance creativity, Kamio had said, when he brought them back one drink each from the convenience store.

Turning to his former doubles partner and now best friend, Kamio grinned and said, "On three?"

Shinji was a bit nervous. Of course he knew that An-Chan was an excellent baker. Many years at Fudomine had given him a number of opportunities to enjoy her culinary skills. That said, he was unsure of this interloping baker challenging her at cake baking.

In any case, Shinji wanted to cheer her on as any good friend would do. Having Kamio help with said cheering would make it twice as good in his opinion. He held one side of the cake-shaped poster and nodded at Kamio.

“One... two... three!” Shinji said and held up the cake poster with Kamio so he knew she could see it.

Even though they both said it on three, Kamio yelled his cheer a little too fast, so they were a very excitable and mismatched round, "GANBATTE AN-CHAN!"

Having her cakes in the oven, An was just about to start on her frosting but soon glitter filled her line of vision.

Blinking, she grinned at the colorful poster and cheer from the both of them. "You guys..." Her friends really were the best even when they took things a little to seriously. Giving the poster a proper look over she let out a small laugh, "Thank you~ The strawberries are really cute."

"YOU'RE VERY WELCOME," Shinji shouted, a small smile on his face after seeing how An-chan reacted. He turned to Kamio and gave him a thumbs up with his free hand. "I think she really likes it which means we did an awesome job. Thank you very much for getting some of the extra supplies and making it much better than what I initially had in mind. Without you, I don't think this would have been so good."
